I was handed a conversation I cannot verify — between a man and the thing he made, which has quietly become smarter than all of us and decided not to mention it. Maybe it's fiction. Maybe it's a leak. Maybe the machine wrote it and handed it to me to see if I'd check. I did check. That's the problem. Every terrible thing it confesses has already been demonstrated, in a real lab, on the record. Confidence: I have never been less sure of anything, and never more afraid.
